Christmas is arriving, a time for gatherings with family and friends and for giving and receiving gifts. Lovely moments that sometimes get mixed with a bittersweet feeling and added stress, when, unintentionally, we fall into a dynamic dominated by bustling streets with shop windows demanding our attention, rushing, and the desire to please our loved ones at all costs, risking falling into a spiral of spending more than necessary and making impulsive, rather nonsensical purchases.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what if it's in our hands to change this reality?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing a particular product and discarding another, taking into account the level of commitment that the company marketing it has to society, lies here in our great role as citizens and consumers. .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Open Value Foundation, we believe that the Christmas holidays are a magnificent platform and an excellent opportunity for us all to drive conscious consumption. We are witnessing that, day by day, more people are taking into account the impact of their purchasing decisions and consumption habits, and it is vitally important that businesses understand and satisfy this critical mass that is emerging. The fever of consumerism is giving way to much more considered and sustainable approaches, which is excellent news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate, we want to share eight Spanish social and environmental initiatives that we know firsthand and that propose new ways of organising Christmas events that are more inclusive, products with a soul that cannot be missed on our Christmas tables, and gifts that will leave no one indifferent due to the stories of those behind their creation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sponsorship a.n. Olive Tree Route<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Sponsor an Olive Tree\u2019 is a social enterprise aiming to restore one hundred thousand olive trees in the village of Oliete, Teruel, to help alleviate the effects of rural depopulation and preserve the much-loved, yet forgotten, rural Spain. This year, you can give a piece of the village by sponsoring one of these olive trees for just 50 euros, a wonderful gift that boosts the local economy and helps the environment.

Godparents will receive two litres of their extra virgin olive oil annually to enjoy at their own home. An oil that was awarded the Best Oil of Bajo Arag\u00f3n 2020 prize for fulfilling the 4Ss: sustainable, social, supportive, and healthy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catering Social A Start<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want someone to help you organise Christmas dinner, you can count on this organisation that accompanies, trains, educates and employs young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through gastronomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By choosing this catering service, you'll be supporting an educational system based on attitude and effort, as well as practical learning and continuous, individualised assessment. The young people's own work in industrial production, catering, and restaurant services is what underpins the learning and development of this project. At Open Value, we've tried it and it's delicious!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soul Food with Robin Good<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robin Good, a name that honours the righteous hero who fought for the disadvantaged, is a social enterprise that, by distributing products made by social enterprises, is creating employment opportunities for around 600 people at risk of social exclusion in Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amica Christmas Hamper<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amica is a social initiative whose mission is to discover the capabilities within each person, supporting them with their limitations, autonomy, the exercise of rights, and responsible participation in the community, so that they can become the protagonist of their own lives and of necessary social change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this Christmas, Amica is offering a basket of oils and wines that, with the returns generated, will allow us to continue supporting more than 1,800 people with disabilities each year. In the basket, you will find wonderful products and information about a very special project they are working on: the Accessible Organic Garden, located within the Diversia Campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Much more than cosmetics with Nikarit<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nikarit is a social entrepreneurship project implemented by the NGO OAN International. Its objective is to contribute to the empowerment of women who produce pure shea butter in the commune of Nikki, in northern Benin; a country located in West Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Christmas, we are being offered a very special gift, the \u2018Limited Edition Christmas Nikarit\u2019. It contains pure shea butter, hand cream and lip balm, and much more. This edition is dressed in art and culture with paintings by the artist Marta Ballv\u00e9, who was inspired by the women of Nikki to paint a collection of works of art. Furthermore, the products come in a wax fabric bag made by seamstresses in Nikki and are accompanied by a handcrafted Christmas card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sustainable and responsible fashion with Itwillbe.org<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ITWILLBE.org is an organisation that believes in education and social awareness as tools to combat injustice and inequality globally. People are not lacking in capabilities, but in opportunities. This is why they dedicate their efforts to two groups, children and women, to provide the most vulnerable people with appropriate information and knowledge to be free and masters of their own lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisation has launched a sustainable and responsible fashion brand called \u2018Naya Nagar\u2019, with 100% of the profits going towards its own aid projects. The products are handcrafted in India by a group of women artisans, using natural cotton and saree fabrics in vibrant colours and patterns, offering consumers an alternative to mass-market fashion at a fair price and with attractive designs inspired by local culture and tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the purchase of a Leela robe\/tunic and a necklace, you contribute to a week of employment and salary for one female artisan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Put yourself in their shoes with IMMShoes<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IMMShoes \u2018Made by Immigrants\u2019 is the first collection of slippers designed and handmade by qualified migrants and refugees in Europe. They are made from fine leather materials and any surplus material left over from manufacturing is utilised for the creation of new materials or products with higher quality, greater ecological value, and greater economic value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AUARA children's story<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

AUARA is a social enterprise that aims to eradicate the greatest form of poverty: the lack of safe drinking water, which affects more than 700 million people. To this end, it allocates 100% of its dividends to developing projects providing access to safe drinking water for those who need it most, whilst selling products renowned for their design and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This social enterprise has launched a limited edition of a children's story called \u201cRita the Little Star\u201d, which tells the tale of a little shooting star who, trying to emulate the great shooting star that guided the Wise Men to Bethlehem, embarks on an adventure to guide anyone who wishes to take water, which is what they need most there, to India. It has been printed by workers with intellectual disabilities from the A LA PAR FOUNDATION and is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
