And that is precisely what we do: we produce industrial materials from the parts of lettuce, artichokes and up to 40 other different types of vegetables that we don\u2019t eat. Without using any plastic, adhesives or binders. Our materials are made from 100% plant fibres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Feltwood sprang from the original idea of Arancha Y\u00e1\u00f1ez, who noticed the increasing amount of plastic in the sea during her diving excursions. We always say, \u2018Feltwood was born when she saw more plastic than fish.\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After several years of research by Arancha, Feltwood Ecomateriales was founded in 2016. In 2018, \u00d3scar Longares joined as Head of Business Development, and the opportunity arose to participate in the Ship2B startup acceleration programme in Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ship2B was a great support in Feltwood's growth as we met our first investors (now partners) at their acceleration programme's Demo Day. They also introduced us to the Open Value Foundation, which also invested in us through its Venture Philanthropy fund in July 2019. These first funds, supplemented by those from small investors close to the project, allowed us to file a patent protecting our processes and materials in August 2019 and consolidate our growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also in 2019, we participated in an acceleration process with UnLtd and Ferrovial in Madrid. We gained our first client and our team grew to five people, including Jos\u00e9 Luis Diez, who holds a PhD in Physics and specialises in materials science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The year 2020 has been Feltwood's biggest growth year ever, despite the pandemic, during which we secured funding from EIT Food, part of the European Commission, built our demonstration plant (an intermediate step between laboratory and industrial manufacturing), and the team has grown to 8 people, including a new CEO who will allow us to expand as a company in the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aside from our team, the centrepiece of Feltwood, what sets us apart is that we can manufacture our materials from many different plants and that we can do so not only with the whole plant, but with what is commonly discarded and which at present is a costly waste to manage for many businesses. What also sets us apart is the range of different materials and applications that we can achieve from the same raw material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this 2021, with a demonstration plant already in place and following a long period of product development, we are going to focus on commercialising our technology and products, on selling, which, in the end, is the ultimate objective of any company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
