When I was 17, I began my university adventure like many other young people that year. As I didn't have a university in my town, I had to \u201cemancipate myself,\u201d that word that appears in the news almost every month as the big challenge for young people. Like other young people, I didn't have the financial resources to rent a room and support myself, so I opted to rent a room from my grandmother in her house near the university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some relatives weren't entirely convinced; my grandmother had been living alone for a long time and they were worried about the friction of living together. I, for my part, didn't share the same opinion, I thought: why not? For my grandmother, it was a similar process, at first she was a bit hesitant, but she overcame her reservations and took the step. That's how our cohabitation experience began. We were flatmates for 730 days and, honestly, my grandmother has been the best flatmate I've ever had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of us are the key to change <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Every year, young people come to the city to work, train, etc., and, like me, they face serious difficulties in being able to afford rent. In 2 or 3 European cities, young people like us have great difficulty finding \u201cdecent\u201d and \u201caffordable\u201d accommodation. And, at the same time, we have thousands of elderly people living alone in their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How many times have we instilled fears in the elderly people around us about their capabilities? How many news stories are published promoting the image of irresponsible youth? Many elderly people we have around us who live alone, our neighbours, have considered sharing their homes, but fear and prejudice hold them back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is how we are building barriers in our society that divide generations. We no longer share spaces, time, or conversations.<\/strong>. We are heading towards a society riddled with the famous \u201csocial isolation\u201d, with no connections, no transmission of values... And this must be stopped. Kuvu as a social response to generate change <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It is for all these reasons that we founded Kuvu in 2019 with the mission to improve the quality of life for ageing people, by reducing and preventing unwanted loneliness and social isolation<\/strong>. We promote systemic change at the state level, which challenges us to go beyond our business activities by promoting legislative changes and public policies aligned with the social impact we want to generate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As a company, we began our journey being accelerated by the Ship2B Foundation with the financial support of the BBK Foundation and its \u201cBBK Venture Philanthropy\u201d programme, and also receiving a boost from the Open Value Foundation by investing in us through its Venture Philanthropy fund. Covida has spread throughout the state and has more than 3,300 elderly beneficiaries supported by 1,562 kind individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What now?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, we are at a critical juncture. We are suffering an unprecedented economic crisis, and the pandemic has also had a severe effect on social isolation. It is time to act with determination.
