However, only 37.50% said they had taken part in any initiative over the past year to tackle a social or environmental problem in their local area.

How can we make it easier for young people to develop as agents of change so they can contribute to the positive transformation of their environments?

This is the question they are trying to answer Ashoka, Unlimited Spain and Acumen Academy Spain (from Open Value Foundation). Three of the organisations with the longest track record in driving social innovation internationally, which already have a presence in over 193 countries and bring together a community of over 19,000 change agents, whose solutions impact the lives of over 262 million beneficiaries.

And to achieve this, this union of entities sees it as key to be able to change the narrative towards hope and action. Their proposal, build a common, shared, affordable and tangible narrative that makes it easier for things to be possible by and for everyone.

In statements by Álvaro Pérez-Pla, responsible for Acumen Academy in Spain, “Having a social impact still sounds like something distant and associated with charity. We need to democratise social impact so that society understands that generating it is within their reach”

That's why the protagonists of these conversations have been the agents of change who are solving social challenges that they live, feel, and suffer first-hand. People who are taking action to solve problems, doing so in teams, and seeking the good of all.

inspiring and diverse talent such as Elena Ruda, a young Ashoka changemaker, who founded the Blue Light NGO, to bring young people closer to the realities of people in vulnerable situations. Also, social entrepreneurs with a long track record as Alberto Alemano, Ashoka Fellow, who since The Good Lobby works so that citizens can have a voice and change the reality of their community, Mahmoud Assy, Fellow of Acumen 2021, working every day to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in Spanish companies and finally Rosa Castizo, another participant in Acumen's Fellows programme, which drives rural regeneration projects, helps reduce environmental footprints, and conserves the wisdom of elders.

“Young people have a particularly strong social and environmental conscience, ideas to change things, and the desire to do so. With this initiative, we will continue to be by their side to help them generate the tools, and give them the motivation they need to create real changes that improve the planet and society,” states the new director of Ashoka Spain., Irene Milleiro.

This series of conversations has focused on 4 cross-cutting themes What are they like Climate change, empathy, diversity, and activism. and have spread through the Maldita Channel, a Spanish media outlet dedicated to fact-checking which aims to provide citizens with “tools to stop you being ripped off.

A first collaborative action between these three organisations that from a clear purpose “that anyone can participate in social innovation”, will continue to collaborate to make it possible.

Because according to claims Manuel Lencero, CEO and co-founder of UnLimited Spain: “If we truly want to change the world, we need social impact to reach all spheres of society. We want that in any corner of Spain, a leader of a large organisation or an entrepreneur who is just starting out knows what impact is and is aware that they can change things through their project”.

If you didn't get the chance to see them live, now available on the Maldita Channel.
