{"id":9253,"date":"2026-04-27T16:23:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T16:23:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.openvaluefoundation.org\/?p=9253"},"modified":"2026-04-27T16:23:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T16:23:18","slug":"blog-post-46","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/openvaluefoundation.org\/en\/2026\/04\/27\/blog-post-46\/","title":{"rendered":"Blog post 46"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1983,&nbsp;<strong>Muhammad Yunus founded the Grameen Bank, initiating a revolution in the microfinance sector.<\/strong>&nbsp;for which she won the Nobel Peace Prize.&nbsp;<br><br>Over time, Grameen transformed from being a bank into a group of enterprises dedicated to serving the poor rural communities of Bangladesh, established with the express intention of reinvesting each and every profit for the benefit of the poor. They were the first social enterprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In 2011, together with Saskia Bruysten and Sophie Eisenmann, Professor Yunus founded Yunus Social Business<\/strong>&nbsp;(YSB) to focus on the growth and funding of social enterprises worldwide.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OVF became a social investor in Yunus Social Business in 2015. Since then, through them&nbsp;<strong>We have invested over \u20ac280,000 in social enterprises in Uganda and Kenya<\/strong>, using the loan as an instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During these years, we have supported different social enterprises through our partner.&nbsp;<strong>When one of these companies achieves a certain level of profitability and repays the loan, it is reinvested in other social enterprises that contribute to ending poverty.<\/strong>&nbsp;and with some of the great challenges we face as Humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>IMPACT WATER<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openvaluefoundation.org\/en\/es\/proyectos\/impact-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Impact Water<\/a>&nbsp;It is a social enterprise that provides low-cost water purification systems to schools and institutions in Africa (Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda). Today, nearly one and a half million.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2015, OVF supported Impact Water with \u20ac30,000 as part of a \u20ac200,000 loan that the company finished repaying in January of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>GODSON COMMODITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openvaluefoundation.org\/en\/es\/proyectos\/godson-commodities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Godson Commodities<\/a>&nbsp;It is a social enterprise that buys chia seeds from small-scale Ugandan producers at fair prices, processes them, and then exports them. Through this model, the company has supported a network of 10,000 farmers, contributing to the improvement of their communities by increasing their income.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2016, OVF invested USD 50,000 as part of a USD 350,000 loan that the company finished repaying in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CYCLE CONNECT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openvaluefoundation.org\/en\/es\/proyectos\/cycle-connect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cycle Connect<\/a>&nbsp;It provides Ugandan smallholder farmers with access to productive resources such as bicycles and agricultural assets through inclusive financing schemes, with the aim of increasing their incomes and improving their living conditions and those of their families. To date, it has facilitated more than 10,000 loans, which have resulted in an average increase in income of 30%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company received a loan of 100,000 USD in 2019, of which it has already repaid 75%. The Open Value Foundation contributed 50,000\u20ac to the loan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BURN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openvaluefoundation.org\/en\/es\/proyectos\/burn-manufacturing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Burn Manufacturing<\/a>&nbsp;revolutionising.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2020, OVF donated \u20ac100,000 as part of the $400,000 USD loan granted by YSB to this social enterprise, which the company is scheduled to repay in 2024.&nbsp;<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through Yunus Social Business,&nbsp;<strong>our funds become&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>patient capital loans&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>that strengthen social enterprises focused on solving the problems of millions of people in poverty<\/strong>&nbsp;in emerging economies. Thanks to this collaboration, we are able to support visionary entrepreneurs developing products and services for the poorest, but who struggle to access finance due to being in early stages that carry more risk for conventional investors.
