They were very intense days in which the group gave their all. They learned how to deal with the dynamics that developed and opened up to the rest of the group, with many emotions flourishing. Lucía González, one of the fellows, wanted to share with us her experience first-hand.

“The journey begins even before leaving home, when you pack your suitcase: comfortable clothes, a jumper for the evening, my running shoes, a toiletry bag full of nerves, a rucksack brimming with expectations, and a tote bag stuffed to the brim with questions.

I caught my train and headed towards them. We met at a restaurant in Guadalajara; I had learned all their names and matched them to their photos. I think it was a way to calm my nerves. The first thing I felt was how each name and each photo transformed into a gaze and a smile.

And from that first moment, you feel something. Something different that's starting to happen within you. “The Process” some call it, “Ubuntu” I call it. Ubuntu is a term from African culture meaning “I am because We are”.

In early April, we experienced five days where time and the world literally stood still, or perhaps it was our group that had travelled to another temporal space. A space where the circle is the shape we have adopted to respect each other, to listen, to learn, to reflect, to debate, to move forward, to laugh, to cry and above all, to love each other.

A space where diversity of ages, origins, ideas, cultures, and sensibilities, is a new song you won't want to stop humming. Where learning from others and with others, is a drug I suspect I'll never be able to give up.

Where the 'I' transitions through each member of the circle to emerge strengthened, oxygenated, brave, joyful, and finally, with incredible naturalness, becomes replaced by the 'We'.

Here at the Acumen Magic Team, they look after us, show us, and demonstrate that generosity is the best recipe for helping us to shape ourselves and awaken in each person a fierce hunger to know more so that we can act better, and we feel this team to be an indispensable part of our circle.

When it’s time to go home, the suitcase has changed. The clothes are wrinkled and I push them to the back because I want to leave as much space as possible for those snowflakes that are still floating and resisting falling.

Every person who made up that circle is now part of me. I have 26 new superpowers, and that makes me feel happy, fortunate, and grateful. This “changing the world” thing sounds nice, but doing it hand-in-hand with people of their talent and authenticity makes me believe in humanity again and makes me shout, “There is hope!”

In this first meeting, we've already formed a new government for Spain, imagine what could happen in the second... I'm dying to know!”

Hace unas semanas, tuvo lugar el primer encuentro de los fellows de la cuarta cohorte de Acumen España.
