The article \u201cNavigating IMM with Open Value Foundation<\/a>\u201c<\/strong>, published by the EVPA<\/a><\/strong>, (the European Venture Philanthropy Association), comes to complete the case study<\/a><\/strong> in which the foundation's investment in Sponsor an Olive Tree<\/a>,<\/strong> A social enterprise seeking to transform the state of abandonment in rural Spain through the creation of sustainable rural economies. 

In 2020, OVF invested in this social enterprise through a donation of 25,000 euros and a loan of a further 25,000 euros.\u00a0Support for Apadrina un Olivo falls within the Opportunities area, which accounts for around 75% of the foundation\u2019s investment. This area encompasses the portfolio of supported organisations that tackle social problems affecting some of the most vulnerable communities. 

Open Value Foundation Finance<\/strong> these organisations primarily through Donations and loans<\/strong>, and to a lesser extent through capital and hybrid financial instruments. In addition to financial support, the foundation provides these organisations with extensive non-financial support<\/strong>to help them strengthen their business model and their impact measurement and management practices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the case study, the OVF model is analysed, along with how it contributes to improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable people and communities, and how, by investing with small amounts<\/strong> in impact companies in initial phase<\/strong>, the foundation plays a catalytic role,<\/strong> building a track record and attracting other types of investors at a later stage. 

The Apadrina un Olivo case demonstrates that investment in social enterprises can have a positive impact on rural Spain, and that building trust and exploring new business avenues are important for the success of these enterprises. On the other hand, it reveals how Impact investing can be an effective way to generate positive social and environmental impact.<\/strong> at the same time as achieving a financial return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the case study highlights the importance of impact measurement and management as a driver of the foundation's decision-making. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
