Agriculture continues to be the main source of income and employment in Sub-Saharan Africa, but most farmers live with very limited resources due to the lack of access to markets and the knowledge to improve productivity. This was the case of the squatting community of Bussi Island, where 80% of the pineapple production went to waste due to the lack of access to markets and know-how.

Jali Organic is a premium manufacturer of dried fruits and green coffee, focusing on Bussi Island’s native fruit, pineapple. The company markets its products in the international organic dried fruit market. Jali Organic provides agriculture training for the farmers, who are suppliers of the social business. Some of them are its employees as well.

The company abides by the international fair price policy, supporting smallholder farmers with fair loans and prices to promote food security and increase their incomes. With more than 2,000 farmers associated and 30 local employees, Jali Organic has improved the livelihood of Bussi Island inhabitants.
